Mock drill lapses responsible for woman's death: Karnataka fire department chief

Bangalore, Feb.25 (ANI): The Karnataka Fire Department on Saturday admitted its lapse in the Bangalore mock fire drill case in which a 25-year-old woman lost her life on Friday.

State Fire Department chief A R Infant said: "What happened was unfortunate. We do admit there could have been procedural lapses and we are investigating into it."

"But what we will do now is that we shall look into our safety operating procedures and make our mock fire drills more secure, " he added.

The victim, identified as Nalini, was climbing out of the window of a building with the help of a rope, but fell to her death within minutes after the rope snapped.

The mock fire drill was organized to teach safety techniques to the 1,200 employees of Bombay Rayon, a garment factory in Bangalore. (ANI)

"But what we will do now is that we shall look into our safety operating procedures and make our mock fire drills more secure, " he added. - He is saying it so casually! No, what should really happen now is that you/your team should be punished severely for your negligence.

He is Casual bcos his name is Infant !!!! he is a kid xing, and punishment is not enough the victim's NOK to be paid 25 lacs INR minimum as blood money.

merely expressing regret for the unfortunate event will not be enough. A case must be registered for negligence and the accident probed impartially to find the guilt and due punishment mated out to set an example for future such events.

Human life is cheap and has no value in India. Can we ever have confidence in our disaster management agencies/systems after this shocking incident?

Feel pity for the illfated woman who lost her life during a mock drill. It has been hyped that mock drills are conducted to train people to handle issues during an emergency. But, the officials who organise such mock drills are very much keen to perform their office routine than of taking percautionary meausres to prevent any such incident that happened in the out skirts of Bangalore. Lost is lost and that cannot be regainned or compensated. At least let the officials be cautious here after.

If deaths occur during drill imagine what will happen during real fire. No One to Blame? Rubbish. It is the fire depptt to blame who had no plans to rescue if the rope snaps. This is death due to negligence and has to be taken very seriously. One may die in sports but these drills are suppopsed to prevent death not cause death. This is CRIMINAL.

Bangalore police, like even our anti terror security organisation, is ill equipped and has untrained staff only who joined some special allowances for doing so. They would do a good job if they get training from foreign counterparts who have accumulated a lot of experience in this specialised function. But the bureaucrats , minister, and others concerned simply seem to have had no proper appreciation of what it takes to provide training to personnel and institute effective organisation for fire fighting and mock drills. Last but not least, the family which depended on the earning of this unfortunate victim of braindead group of organisers' foolishness, should be adequately compensated for, with job and payment, in consultation with social workers who will not be influenced by politicians, etc.

This is murder caused by negligence, someone has to be answerable, the rope could have been assesed by the fire department but they ignored, the shame of this country is that 120 crore citizens will quiely see this forgotten in a couple of days as usual and people who are not fit to be working in the post they occupy will cause death due to ignorance and negligence.

What is surprising in this. we are careless, indifferent, negligent, apathetic But Naatakbaj, makkar in inside of us, Why blame Luck and God for our Kukarms. If some one points defects/shortcomings, s/he becomes traitor, bad man. Examples are Mr.TN Seshan, Khairnar, few more

Mock drill is organized periodically by safety department to make aware of the people/employees; what to do and what not to do at the time of miss happening. And also to check soundness of Ambulance, Fire tenders and equipments. Synchronies and develop understanding between medical service, fire tender service and safety department. But the participants should be from concerned department only. What was happened was unfortunate. It is not disclosed but Nalini must be from the fire safety department.

Very sad that the mock drill has taken a precious life. Heartfelt condolence to the family. However it should be an eye opener to all places where mock drills are conducted and ropes are used. Lapses and casual approach only leads to such tragedies. Government should fix correct guidelines and make people accountable.

      The big question is:
Why the fire department people didn't descend from rope in Mock drill?
Why did they request ordinary public to involved in this Mock drill?

Is it like they want to learn everything practically, use some common sense Fire Brigade !!
