Misbah says cricket fans desperate to see Indo-Pak series

Islamabad, Jun 1(ANI): Pakistan One-Day and Test team captain Misbah-Ul-Haq has said cricketing ties between India and Pakistan should be revived as soon as possible, as fans in both the neighbouring countries are desperate to watch their teams play.

"It is very important that we have a quick revival of Indo-Pak cricket, because fans desperately want to see both countries play," The Express Tribune quoted Misbah, as saying.

Diplomatic and sporting ties between both the neighbouring countries came to a halt after the 2008 attacks on Mumbai by militants based in Pakistan, which left 166 people dead.

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari's visit to India last month had raised hopes that the two countries would revive ties in sports, trade and travel.

Cricket was one of the numerous topics that were discussed between Zardari and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Recently, the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) gave the green light to Pakistan's domestic Twenty20 champions Sialkot Stallions to take part in October's Champions League.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf and chief operating officer Subhan Ahmed, who toured India to watch the final of the Indian Premier League on Sunday, have also raised hopes of a looming breakthrough in cricketing ties between the two countries. (ANI)
