Marilyn Monroe fronts latest Chanel No. 5 ad

Melbourne, Nov 22 (ANI): 50 years after her death, Marilyn Monroe's legend is still living on as the new face of Chanel No.5.

Monroe has had a long association with the perfume, ever since she told an interviewer in 1952 that it was all she wore to bed.

"They ask you questions like...What do you wear to bed - A pyjama top? The bottoms of the pyjama? A nightgown?" Monroe said at that time.

"So I said, 'Chanel No. 5' because it's the truth!...And yet I don't want to say 'nude'!" she said.

The almost accidental endorsement unintentionally rendered the perfume an instant classic.

It became one of the most successful marketing campaigns ever, without Chanel even having to pay a cent for it.

Last month, Chanel uncovered the previously misplaced audio of an interview with Marie Claire in which she spoke about her No.5 comments, News.com.au reported.

The audio now features as part of a cinematic commercial, which has been watched over 750,000 times since it's release less than a week ago. (ANI)
