Russia delivers naval fighters to India
Russia's MiG aircraft maker delivered a new batch of five MiG-29K/KUB carrier-based fighters to the Indian Navy in May, the company said. 'A flight training simulator and other technical equipment has also been delivered,' MiG said in a statement.
The two countries signed a contract stipulating the supply of 12 single-seat MiG-29Ks and four two-seat MiG-29KUBs to India in January 2004. The contract is part of a $1.5-billion deal to deliver the Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier, currently being retrofitted in Russia for the Indian Navy. More
Disclose details about Anderson extradition: CIC to MEA
Overuling objections, the CIC has directed External Affairs Ministry to disclose the communication between it and CBI on the issue of extradition of the then Union Carbide chief Warren Anderson in the Bhopal Gas tragedy case.
The Central Information Commission(CIC) held that the sub-judice factor cited by the Ministry cannot be a sufficient ground for denying information to public.
The External Affairs Ministry had objected to the disclosure of correspondence exchanged between it and CBI, saying it could adversely affect the Anderson extradition case as the matter is still sub-judice. The Ministry also said that it has not spent any money in the case. Read more

2:00 pm: Govt reviews security at sites Headley had recced
The state intelligence department is reviewing security arrangements of the targets in Mumbai which David Coleman Headley claimed to have recced.
"State intelligence department has started gathering information on the possible targets revealed by Headley in the US court," state home minister R R Patil said. However the minister made it clear, it is a suo motu action taken by the state government and not based on any information from the US government.
In his testimony before a US court, Headley said how he, on behalf of the LeT, had decided to assassinate Sena chief Bal Thackeray and others in Mumbai. The US national said how he had even befriended a Sena activist in order to accomplish his mission. Following the statements, the state intelligence department has decided to conduct a security review of Sena Bhavan, Matoshree and other places that Headley visited.
1:30 pm: German chancellor lands late in India after Iran blocks plane
Iran temporarily withdrew flyover rights for the plane carrying German chancellor Angela Merkel to India on Tuesday, forcing it to circle over Turkey for two hours before the rights were restored and she could land in New Delhi.
"An unusual start to the India trip," Merkel's spokesman Steffen Seibert wrote on his Twitter account. "Iran temporarily denied flyover rights for the Chancellor's plane. A late landing in Delhi."
A Reuters journalist travelling with Merkel reported that Iran had withdrawn the previously granted rights shortly before the plan reached Iranian territory.

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Tuesday said he would go on his fast against corruption from June 4 despite the Centre's efforts to placate him over his demand for action on black money.
"My hunger strike will go ahead. There is no question of calling off the protest plan till my demands are met and till talks reach a satisfactory conclusion," Baba Ramdev said.
The government had said it will set up a Directorate of Criminal Investigation dealing with direct tax law under the Central Board of Direct Taxes.
This is the third such measure put forward by the government, which on Friday announced a high level panel to tackle generation of black money and on Sunday commissioned a study by top economists to estimate the extent of illegal wealth stashed abroad.
12:15 pm: SC grants bail to Binayak's associate Guha
The Supreme Court today granted bail to Piyush Guha, who was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment along with civil rights activist Binayak Sen in a sedition case.
The vacation bench of justices G S Singhvi and C K Prasad suspended the sentence of life imprisonment and directed Guha''s release on bail. The bench also directed Guha to furnish a bail bond of Rs two lakh and two sureties of one lakh each.
Guha, a Kolkata-based businessman, was convicted along with Sen and Naxal ideologue Narayan Sanyal for colluding with Maoists to establish a network to fight the state. They were awarded life imprisonment.

India's economy has grown by 8.5 percent in fiscal year FY 11, just below the government's 8.6 percent estimate, and up from eight percent a year earlier. The economy grew by 7.8% in Q4. Slump in forth quarter numbers is a cause of concern and analysts say that this downward trend might continue in the first quarter this year. Rising inflation and high oil prices were one of the major concerns affecting the consumption rate. Market experts say this would prompt RBI to take a hawkish stand in the first quarter monetary policy review.
11:00 am: Pak intruder killed along the Indo-Pak borderA Pakistani intruder was killed by the security forces along the Indo-Pak border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, a BSF officer said today.
BSF troops observed some suspected movement along the Indo-Pak border in Regal Border Out Post in Samba district yesterday and challenged the infiltrator, he said.
The intruder, however, failed to stop following which the troops opened fire killing him, he said. The Pak Ranger has refused to take the body of the intruder, he said.

10:00 am: UPDATE: Two bus accidents in Assam, at least 24 killed
At least 27 people have been killed, 40 people are trapped and many more are said to have suffered serious burn injuries in two separate bus accidents in Assam today.
The first accident happened when a bus carrying a wedding party fell into a gorge in Hajo in Kamrup district.
Twenty seven people have been killed in this accident and 40 others are said to be trapped. The bus was on its way from Guwahati to Tihu. Local people of the area are helping in rescue work.
In a second accident, 22 people are said to have suffered serious burn injuries after an oil tanker collided with their bus in Bokakhat near Kaziranga National Park.

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, who was actively involved in social activist Anna Hazare's anti-graft movement, will go on a fast unto death from Tuesday in the Capital as part of his campaign — satyagraha against corruption. The satyagraha will be held at Ramlila Maidan to force the government to act on corruption-related issues.
He plans to continue his fast till the government accepts his three demands — recover black money stashed away in foreign banks by Indian politicians and businessmen and declare it as public property, ban high-denomination currency notes in the country as it leads to high-level corruption and award death sentence to the corrupt. Amid widening differences with the civil society activists on the Lokpal bill and plans by yoga guru Swami Ramdev to sit on a fast to press for bringing back illegal money stashed in foreign banks, the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) met Monday to take stock of the situation. 8: 15 am: Bus accident in Assam kills 37 people
At least 37 people were feared killed and six injured in Assam when a bus carrying a marriage party plunged into a gorge after hitting a wooden bridge late Monday, officials said.
The accident took place around 11 p.m. Monday near village Charabari in Kamrup district, about 30 km from Assam's main city of Guwahati.
