The hi-tech lab and common business centre, which is part of the Rs 65-crore auto cluster coming up in Adityapur, is expected to be completed early next year.
The hope was held out by the civil wing of telecom major Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), which is implementing the lab project. Work started last month.
"Construction is going on in full swing. We are hopeful of making the hi-tech lab operational by April next year," said a senior functionary of Adityapur Auto Cluster Limited (AACL).
The lab ' the most important component of the cluster project ' and the common business centre are spread across five acres facing the office of Adityapur Small Industries Association on Tata-Kandra Road in Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
R.K. Sinha, managing director of AACL ' a special purpose vehicle formed to develop industrial infrastructure in Adityapur industrial area ' expressed confidence that they would wrap up work on the Rs 43-crore lab by March, 2013, so that it could start functioning in April. "It is an ambitious project aimed at benefiting the auto ancillary units of Adityapur. The lab will provide solutions by designing products according to specifications," Sinha said.
Local manufacturers will also benefit as they can get spares and products tested at their doorstep. It will reduce critical outlay such as cost and time. The common business centre will enable industrialists and owners of ancillary units to interact with visitors and overseas clients.
On an earlier occasion, BSNL nodal officer (external works), Jamshedpur, Abhay Kumar had said that the high-tech lab would have separate set-ups for housing structure dynamic lab, metallurgical lab, meteorological lab, electronic and control lab, noise vibration and harshness (Nvh) lab, tool room and design lab, technical library and computer-aided engineering lab.
The auto cluster project, which is the second such initiative in the country after Pune, has two other components ' effluent treatment plant and hazardous waste management facility that will come up on 25 acres.
One of the directors of AACL, Shivendra Singh, said that the Union commerce ministry had convened a meeting on the cluster project on September 20. Senior officials from the state industry department and AACL will attend it.
"The meeting is important as the deadlines for completion of the effluent treatment plant and hazardous waste management facility will be finalised. Some issues related to land transfer will also be sorted out," he said.
Jharkhand Infrastructure Development Corporation is the project management consultant for the effluent treatment plant.
