Karnataka power struggle hits BJP 'morality session'

Bangalore, Feb 24 (IANS) The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka was Friday forced to cut short its brainstorming session to teach morality and discipline to its ministers and legislators in the wake of a sharpening power struggle in the state unit.

The two-day 'chintan-manthan' was called following the involvement of three ministers - Laxman Savadi, C.C. Patil and J. Krishna Palemar - in porn viewing in the assembly Feb 7. The three quit the cabinet the next day.

But the meet was cut short by one day. The reason given for ending the session Friday itself was that party chief Nitin Gadkari had to go back to Uttar Pradesh for the election campaign.

The party was aware that campaigning in that state had peaked when it announced the chintan-manthan.

But it failed to anticipate the possibility of its first chief minister in the state, B.S. Yeddyurappa, smarting after he was forced to quit in July last year over corruption charges, seizing the opportunity of Gadkari's visit to press for his reinstatement or for a top position in the state unit.

With Yeddyurappa and his supporters indicating they will walk out of the 'chintan-manthan' after Gadkari's address, the party said the meet will be a one-day affair.

In fact it will turn out to be half-day affair as not many of the ministers, legislators and party functionaries attending it as the focus is on Yeddyurappa's next move.

Yeddyurappa was grim-faced at the meet as Gadkari reportedly rejected his demand for immediate reinstatement as chief minister. The two met for about 20 minutes at a hotel in the city centre ahead of the chintan-manthan session at a resort on Bangalore's outskirts.

In New Delhi, party senior leader Arun Jaitley denied there was any problem in the Karnataka unit. He said Yeddyurappa was not creating any problem for the party.

Yeddyurappa supporters, however, continue to claim in Bangalore that their leader has set the Feb 27 deadline for the party central leaders to decide on his demand or he will announce his plan of action on that day, which is also his 70th birthday.

You can bend a sapling not a tree, so teaching morality to these is like teaching buffalos. None will pick. All politicians are with dirty mind and mentality. BJP is not an exception. It is better they concentrate on fair rule. This is the tragedy in our country. Congress ministers worry about homosexuality, drafting NCTC, extracting money from Italy’s marines; BJP is worried about moral values. No one is worried about the country.

BJP as a party speaks high sounding moralty but in reality it is the worst when it comes to practice,. Most of the ministers are avaricious and greedy . YEDDYURAPPA and his family have amssed huge wealth running into crores.A minister who resigned after some scandal got a plum post having the rank of a cabinet minister. This gentleman got a gold made hearing aid costing around Rs 5 Lakhs., They have no conscience while mis using public money. Yeddyurappa's government had the dubious distinction of more than 10 ministers quitting due to one or the other scandals. BJP's south india experiment has failed, HOwever
the opposition is dis organised, If congress and janata dal come together bjp will be routed. This much sense is needed by these two parties. U.S .Venkataraman, Artist-Writer

But even with Congress or Janata Dal, no good would be done to common man, Each party wants power to loot common man

Some party has to be in power and there can not be a vaccum. At best it is a question of choosing a lesser evil. it is heartening to note that youth leadership is emerging. if the youth shred the old dead weight and stem the rot we can be optimistic of having good governance. Left parties having better image are weak not making any dent in our polity.

Yeddyurappa is not a politician. He is a self seeking person who used the platform given to him by the BJP for his own growth and accumulation of wealth. So long as BJP leaders could not detach themselves from Reddy Brothers for the past hospitality in many forms they will continue to remain subservient and amicable to any kind of undue demands. Gadkari iss trembling at the sight of the former CM. He cannot act as President of a party that claims to be with a difference!

These politicians are not bother about common man.. People spend daily hours together due to slow/unplanned road work @bangalore... Unnecessary large pileup due to lack of planning..... They are least bothered... Jai to people who again vote them back to power... They know they can win when they have blessings of religious people/cast-ism..

What "morality" they are talking about? There are no takers for lessons on "morality" in BJP-RSS, that also from a rotten person like Gadkari. Karnataka is a model state for BJP, where the organisation has been completely taken over by RSS. Sangh has sent Gadkari to Bangaluru to settle the 'len-den' under the cover of "chintan-manthan". But things have started stinking in Karnataka so much that even the God can not prevent BJP to be wiped out from the Vidhan Soudh in next election.

Who is your alternative in the next election sir? Is the ever stinking corrupt Congress or the Gunda Gowdas??
      • Pradeep 3 months ago
That is the tragedy with us- we the people. But by fighting both only the alternative shall emerge.

Dance of Democracy is so worst in Karnataka. How can Yeddi support or defend 3 MLA's for viewing porn in Assembly. He questioned all that you don't watch porn? Yes we do but not at Assembly or our work place. Today Yeddy support watching porn in assembly and tomorrow he may support other illegal activities in Assembly. Mr. Yeddy and the tainted 3 MLA's should understand that they are representing the people and they are paid for that and should utilise the precious time for solving people's problem. Just ask them to take a tour of Bangalore. The Garden city charm is no more and all the roads are worst and not fit to travel, full of pot holes and worst traffic. Let them focus on these basic problems first.

Shameless creatures of our state who still wants to ruin the entire state and wanted to make the Karnataka citizens fools again. The people of Karnataka had enough from the BJP Government from the past 3 1/2 years. Even at this juncture, they want to play the Caste Politics even with the Senior Pontiff of the Great Siddaganga Mutt.

Gandhi advised Congress to disband after Independance. They did not do it and became immoral. Now it is time for BJP to disband the party if they have morality.

RSS and it's political face BJP both are driven by wrong and foolish ideals and i wonder what makes the people of karnataka to support these organisations.First of all why should this fellow Gadkari or some " men in mask " of RSS to decide the politics of karnataka ? the people of karnataka must stand up and start using their heads.Going to New delhi and begging before the high commands has been the routine task of politicians from karnataka and they are insulting the people who elected them.

Morality lessons will not cut any ice for such politicians. They are holding master rather Phd degree in scames. It is very difficult to make them Gautam Buddha.

Gadkari is the most responsible person in the BJP by virtue of being the President. He should go for purging his party taking cue from Mayawati.and prepare the ground for contesting 2014 election which shall be the corrupt vs non corrupt or probity vs deception. As Parwati said elsewhere here there is no purpose served by chanting vedas to buffaloes!

Chintan manthan me chintha nahi magar manthram jadoo hai. When a politician had the temerity to
retort dont you see porno at home, can morale be practiced by them.

These South Indians, Specially people of Karnataka are very "Tharki". Specially the old ones. If their leaders are like that and they watch porn in most important place of state, who knows what all goes on in other places.

Just the other day there was news of Drug party somewhere. And now their beloved elected leaders are leading them with example.

The BJP high command & mask of BJP RSS is spineless to through out this trouble maker BSY. This amounts to large scale indiscipline activity and also black mailing BJP high command every now & then. It's time to tell him enough is enough and BJP can still survive with out him and his community lingayats for that matter.
