Karnataka BJP caught in deadline politics

Bangalore, Feb 23 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party circles were abuzz late Thursday that scam-hit former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has set a Feb 27 deadline for his re-instatement or for top position in the state unit. His successor and party colleague D.V. Sadananda Gowda, however, dismissed the deadline talk as media speculation.

Yeddyurappa, who was forced to quit as chief minister in July last year, Thursday hosted a luncheon meeting for party ministers, legislators and parliamentarians in Bangalore to demonstrate support for him in the state unit.

The meeting was held a day ahead of 'chintan-manthan' or brainstorming session of party leaders and legislators to be addressed by party president Nitin Gadkari. The BJP chief landed in Bangalore late Thursday.

Hours after the meeting, the ruling party circles were abuzz with the talk that Yeddyurappa has set the Feb 27 deadline for the party central leaders to decide on his demand. That day he turns 70. He is expected to announce his future course of action on that day.

Sadananda Gowda, however, asserted that there was no such development. "It is all media creation," he told reporters late Thursday on the margins of a function here.

Karnataka is a model state for BJP, where the organisation has been completely taken over by RSS. Sangh has sent Gadkari to Bangaluru to settle the 'len-den' under the cover of "chintan-manthan". But things have started stinking so much that he may not succeed in his mission.
