Karan Johar to direct Aishwarya Rai in remake of Big B hit?

Mumbai, Oct. 24 -- Director Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 1982 film, Bemisal was a classic. The film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Rakhee and Vinod Mehra in the leads told a story of loyalty, sacrifice and revenge. Bemisal is still remembered for the strong performances by its cast and RD Burman's music.

Now, 30 years later, there are rumours that a remake might be in the offing.

According to a source, "Karan Johar wants to remake Bemisal. We're not sure whether or not he will direct the movie himself, but he has been thinking about remaking it at some point."

Karan, it seems, might even have a leading lady in mind. The source reveals, "Karan has been thinking about casting Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to play Rakhee's character from the original. In fact, he is in talks with Aishwarya.

She has been away from films for a while (she last acted in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Guzaarish, 2010), and we haven't heard of a conformation yet from her end. But if all goes well, we will hopefully see her return to the big screen with this."

If Aishwarya does agree to do the film, this will be her first movie with Karan Johar. The film will also see her acting for the first time in a remake of a film that starred her father-in-law.

This year has witnessed the release of several remakes. Johar's Agneepath was one of the biggest hits of 2012, while the Zanjeer remake is being helmed by Amit Mehra. The film is due for release mid next year. If the Bemisal remake happens, then it will be the third Amitabh Bachchan to be remade this year. We tried reaching both Aishwarya and Karan, but they remained unavailable for comment.

This led to a situation that would have been funny if it hadn't been so scandalous: batsmen on each side had cut deals with bookies to lose the game. The side batting first notched up a meagre total that it fully expected would ensure defeat. But the team batting second outdid their rivals by makingeven
