Kapil Dev terms comments on Tendulkar to be personal opinion

New Delhi, Feb 22 (ANI): Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev on Wednesday said his recent comments that batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar should retire from international cricket were his personal opinion.

The 1983 world cup-winning captain said he felt the 2011 World Cup was the right time when Tendulkar should have retired.

"I think he (Tendulkar) served the country so well. Nobody has done better than him. Everybody has to call it a day and I felt after the World Cup that was the high everybody was looking for. And at the end of the day, what more can we expect from that little genius," said Dev.

"After the World Cup, he should have said, Ok I have done my bit, I have fulfilled my dream. Let other people play. But that is my opinion. He loved the game what we know very very closely. So certain people can't let it go because they love it," he added.

Dev had recently said in a television interview that Tendulkar should have retired immediately after the World Cup victory last year.

The dismal performance of the Indian cricket team during the tour of England and Australia has put a question mark on the performance of many players, including Tendulkar.

The former cricketer said that the captain and the team should be compatible with each other in order to perform well on the field.

"At the end of the day, the captain is all in all, and one should respect the captain. That is the way a sport is played. It is up to the captain to look after the team also," he said.

Reports of friction between Dhoni and other senior members of the team had surfaced after India lost to Australia in the recent test match series. (ANI)

Kapil Dev's remarks are very timely. Many greats retired when they felt the time was appropriate. Kapil should have given his opinion about the seksection of players in future India Team. I firmly believe that Sehwag now should not open the innings He should go 2 or 3 down. He is still the most talented aggresive player in cricket. If he is not out or throw away his wicket he will always remain the greatest threat to all the bowlers. And this is what India Cricket needs.

Well, seeing the performance of the Indian team in the last 2 overseas series in both formats of the game i.e., tests and one dayers, it looks like the end of the road for Indian Cricket. IPL has killed and no one is interested in playing for the country because the players make their money in IPL much more in a shorter duration, then why slog for the country.

Those who says Sachin must retire from ODI's is about to hang themselves with immediate effect. Mr.Kapil we all have some respect on you please dont degrade yourself by giving such shit comments here...

First of all you must know what you have done in your last couple of years in international cricket.. Think twice or thrice before giving any comments on Sachin... You people are said because of him youngsters wont get chance in ODI's.. is it so.. after world cup he is not in the ODI squad till this VB series.. is this one year is not enough for grooming the young players in limited format.. and if he plays for his 100th century, then he would have been done it by participating in England ODI series or the recently concluded the home series against weak WI side. he wont you know..

He know this tri series would be the tough one.. that's the reason why he is there in the squad.. that's it... And Mr.cool & Mr.Gambhir for that matter everyone in the Indian team have no rights or qualities to talk bad about the great man... He never replied anyone through words rather than replying through his performance... soon it ll happen.. Just wait for the miracle movement.. if he fails do so, still he remains the greatest batsman...

After playing hardly about 5 - 6 ODI's you people are suggesting him retire from the shorter format..Do you think this is fair.. is this the way to respect the person who makes our country proud.... Surely not...

Players like Dhoni & Gambhir please stop giving such bullshit interviews to the media.. and please concentrate on your own performance rather than pointing someone....

We salute you sachin... You are simply the great man.. we are all with you.. Give your best to shut this idiotic people's mouth...

All the best for your tremendous milestone.....

Thank you Kapil for your sound advice. Sachin should have retired long ago. He is playing still only for money, though he does not need it more unless he is greedy, and for the elusive Bharat Ratna, though he does not desreve it earlier than Dhyanchand. Sachin mania is a media product despite his good cricket.

Age has certainly not taken its tool on Sachin,he is still very much active,we cant ignore some fine catches Sachin has taken.Kapil is right that one should retire in the peak of glory, but on contrary Sachin will definetly do that and yes for us its just wait and watch.

The recent ouster of Ricky Ponting from the one day team one of great ex Aussie captain who has twice successively led the team to be world champions and one of the greatest batsmen that we have seen in world cricket it is high time for one of our own great Sachin Tendulkar to call it quit rather to wait for the call of the selectors to unceremoniously show him the exit door. It is beyond doubt that he has immensely contributed towards the achievement and talent acquisition of the Indian team. His milestones are undoubtedly neighbors envy for any batsmen. His fitness level at this age is an inspiration for any young budding cricketer who after playing few cricket matches gets scrambles. We the people of India are very sentimental ant gets emotional rather very quickly. For us cricket is like religion and Sachin is the god of cricket. We have witnessed earlier where one day we have treated them with showers of flowers, full day procession in praising them and the other day treated them with garlands of shoes if they failed to perform. Before it’s become too late for Sachin to witness the emotional Atyachar of the people he should rather call it a day by himself when he has such an illustrious career behind him. A person like him to play more and more despite contributing nothing to the team only shows his greedy attitude. There are so many enthusiastic and dedicated resources of players available in the country where we can proudly say that future of Indian cricket is in safe hands. They can show their potential and talent when seniors like Sachin make way for them.

DON'T TALK ABOUT SACHIN, MAKE THAT A RUNNING RACE TO ALL THE PLAYERS WITHOUT ANY GRACE LIKE SENIORS. FOR THAT WE SHOULD GIVE CHANCE TO THE PLAYERS WHO SITTING OUTSIDE WHEN A PLAYER NOT IN GOOD FORM...
