Kapil Dev says Sachin has 'outstayed' his welcome in Indian ODI team

Sydney, Feb 23(ANI): Legendary all rounder Kapil Dev has said master blaster Sachin Tendulkar should have retired from the one-day internationals after winning the World Cup last year.

India's first World Cup winning captain, Dev praised Tendulkar for serving India for so many years, but believed every sportsman has a life span, which shouldn't be exceeded.

"It's important to know that every cricketer has his time," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Dev, as saying.

"Having served India for 22-23 years, there surely is no greater cricketer than [Tendulkar]. But he should have announced his decision to retire from the shorter format soon after the World Cup. Age is not on his side as it was earlier. Probably he is a cricketer who loves the game more than us. There are some people who cannot leave cricket," he said.

There have been signs of deterioration in his batting and captain M. S. Dhoni has alluded to the 38-year-old's slowness in the field as reasons for not picking senior batsmen Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir to play together in the same team. (ANI)

Really. Didn't Kapil do the same. Wait for a certain number of wickets and not leave till he was finally fully spent. Hmmmm! History repeats itself.

Do you expect any cricketer to quit on his own when there is so much money to be earned through the game? Like politicians they would want to hang on and on till their family member is ready to take over from them. In cricket, the seniors want to see their sons inducted into the team before they retire.

It would be nice to see Sachin leave playing in his prime, leaving with a genuine standing ovation(lets face it, most of us judge players on their last 10 performances) and not with a bunch of single digit scores and people clapping whilst thanking the lord, that atleast there would now be someone in his place who would perform coz that would be immensely sad :( peace out

How can it be. There s BOOST to boost his performance. How many times we have seen the ad, why you people don't understand. As long the money comes from (any source - ad or game) ; even with boost one hane, he can bat with other.

Leave Sachin alone ...... he will time it perfectly! We are not losing matches because of him alone.

Kapil Dev is forgetting his days when everyone was fed up as to when he would leave which he did only when he broke the record for max wickets. That record is a joke today and long forgotten but Sachins century of centuries is out of this world and will not be broken even if 100 Kapil Devs are born. Whichever is the form of the game Sachin is always in the top three run getters in any series so what do you do with remainder eight who score less than him. The issue therefore is not performance but something else, which the likes of Lapil, Ganguly and even Dhoni should come out with.

Kapil should stop talking about Sachin retiring. If necessary proof can be given that there are crores of people who desperately want Sachin to make his hundredth century before he retires. People want the distinction to belong to India. It is no more about Sachin but the whole of India wanting it. You can expect Sachin to get back into form and make that 100 of hundreds. Further none of the new Batsmen except Kohli have shown the mettle to stay at the wicket like Dravid and Lakshman. Under rotation Dravid and Lakshman should be continued. Kapil should be reminded about the English batsmen- Cowdrey and Barrington- They were recalled at the age of 42 or 43?

Absolutely right. Sachin and most of the Indian players don't know how and when to quit gracefully. They keep dragging their feet for so long that people watching them get fed up and then they finally quit leaving themselves to blame for all the issues caused because of them. Sachin's hay days are over long back, atleast 5-8 years back. Although he never won matches for India (he never did), he used to atleast be amidst runs. For the past 5-8 years hes not even doing that. He's now a white elephant for the Indian time and stop being selfish and hang the boots for country's sake which is already too late!!!

what a douche, have u ever followd cricket or what.. for years Sachin n Dravid were d back bone of Indian batting line up..!! Cricket is a team game dude n he always contributed for most of the win.. You cant compare him with shewag or dhoni whom u might think as a match winner.. Its there style of playin.. from 100 matches they might have given 1 or 2 "in ur language match winning "inning.. bt Sachin at d top of the order most of the time contributed his part.. n 5-8 yrs back.. were u in COMA or something one of his glorious innings were in 2010-2011..!!!

This is all crap going on. Great players are great because they are mentally so strong. Only Sachin knows when the time has come, it has not come yet. How many times will he have to prove to his critics that he is still the best cricketer in Indian cricket team. People are wrong in talking about his age not being on his side. Failure in few innings cant tell anything, everybody has struggled in the series, but sachin has done better than many.
He is such a great player and a noble person that the day he comes to know that he is no longer deserving to be in the team, he will walk away.
Indian cricket Board, please do not make the mistake of ever thinking of dropping him, it will be the biggest blunder in cricket. Selection should be on the basis of performance , not age.
Sachin still has the fire in him to serve the country and you all will see in the coming days that if he is given the opportunity , he will silence all his critics.

I can't understand that why kapil talking about only Sachin retirement. kapil Dev show which new cricketers ready to replace sachin, Shewag and now no one take place of Ganguly and Dravid and they talking about Sachin retirement . The decision of retirement should left on legend .

Kapil Paji, Please ask SEHWAG, Gambhir and Ishant Sharma to quit all Cricket. They are making divide rule. You are not talking for sehwag because they are from Delhi. I know when you are playing you are match fixer and everybody was not happy with your performance. I think you are not half percent of Sachin. Nobody asking you in indian cricket only AAJTAK channel from Delhi is calling you for time pass
Do you understand Kapil the FIXER (M---c--d) .

Some people ignore the 'THE TEAM INDIA' against one or two individual's performance. We indian always sideline the interest of the nation and beats the drum for individual/ region and other segment.
is not it true that we have wasted precious time in not building any team instead of playing series of matches ?

Why not kapil ask other professionals who are not performing to quit.He should from taking about other cricketers first.Since we are not playing that game we should not comment.do something for the society first.Ask business people to quit or politicians to quit.Teachers to quit.-if they are not performing.I feel it is inner things that makes him to talk like this.Once all of us are very great fan of Kapil but things change always. We respect Kapils capability and captancy,But we should correct we some thing is wrong.

talking about sachin only, he too knows guys that he has to cast away but, every player wants to retire in his best form, after serving india getting it won single handedly, dont u think he deserves that, i am sure money is not the problem, but repute is, so, he will, & if not, then still a point is who do u think wud substitute his place, of his caliber? chill guys look at all the eleven players none are assured to play a match winning, forget 50s 100s.

In this country, we have a national craziness to believe that some of our great players and film actors and musicians etc will keep on delivering throught their life if tolerated by the masses of people. Sadly truth is otherwise and has to be accepted . Of course, no two opinions about sachin being one of the greatest players the world cricket has produced and salute him for his humility inspite of all these years of God like adulation.

Sachin is considered as God of cricket but it must be admitted that his form has gone haywire during the recent series in Australia. It is for Sachin to consider a honourable exit from ODIs and T20s.
