Mumbai, May 29 -- Last year's action-thriller Force may have made John Abraham a bankable actor in a lead role, but it also marked the entry of the film industry's new angry young man, Vidyut Jamwal.
A former model, Vidyut made his acting debut down south, and got recognised by director Nishikanth Kamath. But he says Force happened by chance: "I got a call one evening about the film. I didn't have much time to think over it once I heard the script. But the story sounded so good that the next day I was on board. Also, I had seen the original film, Kaakha Kaakha (2003), so I had a better idea of what the movie was going to be like."
Being a martial artiste, Vidyut says he didn't have to undergo a lot of training to get the lean, muscular look. "Martial arts came in handy too while doing the action sequences. Except for my introduction in the film, for which six black guys were called in to train me for my entry, I didn't really have to do much to get the look right," he says.
Working with a star like John Abraham made it easier for him to work in the film, says Vidyut. "Having been a model himself, he knew where I was coming from. He was very understanding and polite, and helped me out when needed."
Talking about being nominated in the negative role category at the upcoming IIFA Awards 2012, Vidyut says, "It feels superb. It's all destiny, I can tell you that much. All my worries are now over."
Will he continue working down south? He says, "I've completed the two projects I had, and I'm glad they're over. Both are really good films, but I'm going to take a break from working in south films. I'm going to concentrate on Bollywood now."
