IPL auction 2012: Chennai Super Kings bags Ravindra Jadeja for nearly 10 crores

Bangalore, Feb.4 (ANI): India and Baroda all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja on Saturday expectedly turned out to be the biggest draw for the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises, but it was the India Cements owned Chennai Super Kings that succeeded in bagging him for a whopping two million dollars (approximately Rs.9.72 crore) in the players' auction for the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League here.

The 23-year-old, whose base price was 100,000 dollars, went to Chennai after the tie-breaker clause was invoked when two teams-CSK and Deccan Chargers-bid the maximum (USD two million) for the Saurashtra player.

Both the franchises were asked to bid a secret amount in the tie-breaker and it was Chennai which managed to outbid Deccan in this.

But the cricketer himself will get paid 950,000 dollars as per the contract he had signed with the now-disbanded Kochi Tuskers Kerala last year and even the secret amount that was bid on him by Chennai would go into the BCCI coffers.

Former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene, incidentally the KTK captain last season, was also a big draw going to Delhi Daredevils for 1.4 million dollars (approximately Rs.6.8 crore).

Jayawardene will, however, get 1.5 million dollars as per his contract last year.

New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman Brendon McCullum was bought for 900,000 dollars by the Kolkata Knight Riders. McCullum's base price was 400,000 dollars.

Indian stumper Parthiv Patel went for 650,000 dollars to Deccan Chargers, which was quite high from his base price of 200,000 dollars.

Veteran Indian batsman V V S Laxman, who was a big disappointment during the recent Test series against Australia, went unsold in the auction along with England's James Anderson, Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara and Matt Prior, West Indies' Ramnaresh Sarwan, Adrian Barath and Darren Bravo and South Africa's Mark Boucher. Is this business of sale-purchase and open auction of human beings not a feudal in nature? Is it tolerable to Indian society?

None of the Indian player who participated in England and Australia tour should be allowed to participate in ANY form of cricket for next two years. Let them realize what shame they brought to us.

The nautanki has started again. When will this stupid game end in this country? This game is all about big money, greed , sleaze. Good-for-nothing greedy scoundrels in BCCI and pampered players are getting richer and fatter while the rest of India is struggling to make ends meet.

It is stupid on the part of BBCI to make a sports commercial. None of the players wortha single paisa. They pley to become rich. This game of cricket is wasting a lot of manhours in a country like INDIA. It is hightime that the govt. takes note of this and tax them heavily. In the meantime some stupid people and BCCI are worried about awarding BHARATH RATHNA TO a certain player which is nothing but stupidity who has played and worried about his personal achievements.

Cricket has been completely commercialised.I think cricketers are also not paying any income tax. There is no respect for other games.Children feel inferiority complex while playing other games.Other games are likely to vanish from India.
