New Delhi: The special general meeting of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Thursday failed to announce the dates of the polling process for the November 25 elections but was quick to give the outstation members a hike in the travel and dearness allowances with immediate effect.
According to sources, it took less than a minute for the members to unanimously increase the allowances from Rs 1,000 to Rs 6000.
Speaking after the meeting, which was chaired by acting president Vijay Kumar Malhotra, a member said: "We were demanding for the hike for a long time… Now, we can afford to stay at decent hotels."
While it took only a minute to decide on the allowances, the members failed to arrive at a decision regarding the dates of filing nominations, scrutiny and withdrawal of candidates after much deliberation.
Any mention of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) ethics commission's suggestion to bar Suresh Kalmadi and two other officials from IOA elections was not allowed by the chairperson.
