New Delhi, Nov 1 (IANS) In his first meeting Thursday with the 77-member council of ministers, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said infrastructure development and overcoming hurdles to investment remain focus areas.
At the 30-minute meeting held at his 7 Race Course Road residence, the prime minister also flagged fiscal deficit as a major concern as a large deficit could deter domestic and foreign investment.
At the meeting, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram shared an assessment of the economic situation of the country.
This was the first such meeting by the prime minister since the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance returned to power in 2009.
A separate meeting of the 32-member cabinet was held later.
