The second phase of Karnataka polls witnessed brisk polling in several assembly segments with about 30 per cent of an estimated 1.10 crore electorate casting their ballot till noon.

Voters continued to queue up to cast their franchise in the 66 constituencies spread over 10 districts in the state, with no reports any untoward incident received so far.

Brisk polling was reported from Raichur, Koppal and Chickamagalur segments while Davangere saw polling picking up momentum as the day went by. Shimoga witnessed a moderate voter turn out till noon.

In Naxal infested areas, polling continued with voters defying the boycott call issued by the naxalites.

Thursday night's strike by Naxals in a village near Hebri where two persons were gunned down failed to deter voters. Around 56,000 personnel maintained a tight vigil on the voting process. Prominent candidates who cast their vote by noon were B S Yeddyurappa from the BJP, his strong opponent, S Bangarappa from SP. Leaders like Oscar Fernandes were among those who exercised their franchise.

The second phase will also spell out the popularity of former deputy chief minister M P Prakash, who is contesting on a Congress ticket.
