A day after JMM called off its proposed East Singhbhum district bandh on Sunday in protest against the arrest of its MP Suman Mahato, the BJP has called for a dawn-to-dusk district bandh on Monday to lodge their protest against the alleged misbehaviour of the MP and the transfer of administrative officials with whom she had a tiff.
Chief Minister Madhu Koda is facing harsh criticism for transferring Deputy Commissioner Nitin Madan Kulkarni, Dalbhum Sub-Divisional Officer Ranjan Choudhury and suspending Kadma police station officer-in-charge Amarjeet Prasad. The Jharkhand Administrative Service Association (JASA) has threatened to go on an indefinite strike, unless Mahato is arrested within a week.
Reacting to the situation, leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Arjun Munda said, "Koda has ruined the state." "Their transfer would demoralise the bureaucracy and police," added BJP leader C P Singh. Koda was not available for comment.
The BJP plans to send a video footage of the MP's alleged misbehaviour with Government officials to the President and Lok Sabha Speaker for action against Suman Mahato, who is widow of slain JMM MP Sunil Mahato.
The district administration had rounded up Suman and her supporters on Friday after they installed a bust of Sunil Mahato on a controversial site on Ganesh Puja maidan, in violation of Section 144 CRPC, which was in force since December 24. This had prompted the JMM to call for Jamshedpur bandh and pressurise Koda to remove Kulkarni and Choudhary. Koda succumbed to pressure and the JMM withdrew the bandh.
On the other hand, Rakesh Kumar, JASA's Jamshedpur unit president, said, "On the basis of the FIR filed at the Kadma police station, chargesheet should be filed and the accused arrested at the earliest."
