SHRC asks Raj to restrain from 'verbal violence'

Thu, May 1 03:03 AM

The Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Wednesday asked MNS chief Raj Thackeray "not to cross his limits and respect the Indian constitution and law" while addressing his cadre in a rally on May 3. The commission also asked him to restrain from any "verbal violence".

SHRC was hearing a complaint filed by activist Medha Patkar against the Maharashtra Police alleging that of the 41 cases registered against Thackeray, the police have made him an accused only in one case.

Following the complaint, the SHRC last week had directed Thackeray to either remain present before the commission or file his written reply on the complaint. Thackeray, who was not present before the commission, in his reply claimed that the SHRC has no jurisdiction to entertain and hear the complaint against him.
