The Mumbai Police have suspended the licences of 35 theatres, including some multiplexes, in the city and suburbs for not screening Marathi movies or not screening the stipulated number of such films.
"We have suspended the licenses of some 35 theatres, which include well-known theatres like Eros, Cinemax (Versova), Liberty (Fort) and Seberbia (Bandra) for not complying with the orders to screen Marathi movies. The suspension of the licences ranges from one to eight days," said Vijay Jadhav, DCP (Headquarters) of the Mumbai Police, which is the authority that renews licences of theatres.
"These theatres were supposed to comply with the state government's orders to screen Marathi movies at least for four weeks in a year," Jadhav added.
