Sohrab case: CID gives clean chit to politicos
Wed, Dec 5 01:35 PM
New Delhi: "Men in Khaki killed Soahrabuddin Sheikh because they believed that they were doing a service to the society." This is what the CID Gujarat, investigating the fake encounter of Sohrabuddin Sheikh said in the 713 page chargesheet it filed in a metropolitan court in Ahmedabad.
The chargesheet named 13 policemen, including three IPS officers, who are involved in the killing of Soahrabuddin Shiekh.
But that's not all. The chargesheet gave a clean chit to politicians whose names did the rounds in the initial stages of the investigations.
The chargesheet also indicts the Andhra Police for helping the Gujarat Police in the fake encounter case and lists statements of 179 witnesses.
However, allegations of bungling in the investigations still persist and the truth in the case will be known only when the court comes out with a verdict.
The role of the cops is under question, but it seems as if their political masters will go scotfree.
