Flight of fantasy

Sagar Arts' next fantasy is Arsalan. This good-versus-bad saga will air on Sony TV from July 12.

Sanjay Upadhyay, creative head, Sony, says that the one-hour weekly show should appeal to youngsters. According to producer Shakti Sagar, Arsalan will take the Indian fantasy genre to another level.

It is based on Japanese myths and legends, and showcases martial arts. It took them seven months to just work out the concept.

How viable is an hour-long weekly in a world where only dailies survive?Upadhyay reminds us of CID, their successful 60-minute crime drama. Arsalan revolves around a young boy who fights evil to protect his people.

The show will feature lots of newcomers: Neil Bhatt plays the lead, along with Supreet Gill, Praneet Bhatt, Gaurav Mendiratta and Nikhil Vij. Known faces The only established actors are Mukul Dev and Kishwar Merchant.

Dev and Merchant play a husband-wife duo, who wreak havoc in our hero's life. Dev's character has been imprisoned in ice for years together and he's now out to take revenge.

The actor says," I am sure people are going to like the show." Merchant, who has been in the news for her break-up with long-time boyfriend Hiten Paintal, says she took on the role because it's a welcome change from her usual saas-bahu look.

Also, it gives her time to take on character roles in films.
