IN A bid to encourage more and more people to try ayurvedic treatment when indisposed, the B.C. Khanduri government has launched a time-bound health project, under which all the government-run health centres in Uttarakhand will have a separate "Ayush-kendra" each, officials said. These Ayush-Kendras, where doctors would be treating patients suffering from all kinds of diseases using the time tested Ayurvedic system of medicine, would be set up in all the Primary Health Centres (PHCs), and Community Health Centres (CHCs), informed Director, Ayurveda and Unani Services, Dr Puja Bhardwaj.
Stating that the proposed Ayush-Kendras will become functional in the next about five years the official said all herbal based medicines like Amritagandha and Ashwagandha which ``help prolong'' the lives of HIV patients would also be available in these Centres. Speaking to the Hindustan Times she said that as many as 162 specialists and doctors would be appointed in the Ayush-Kendras coming up both at the PHCs and CHCs.
Giving further details she said that as many as 162 pharmacists were recently appointed in the Ayush-Kendras of all the PHCs and CHCs. Besides, an extra staff of 162 multipurpose employees would also be appointed.
