Two arrested in Janakpuri murder case

The police have arrested the relative of an Air India employee who was found murdered at his flat in Janakpuri area of west Delhi three days ago. Police said the accused had committed the murder with the intention of robbery.

Another relative who helped him in the crime is absconding. On May 15, B.D. Sharma (70), a retired Air India employee was found murdered at his C Block flat in Janakpuri.

Police said the accused, Bikal Bhanot, is the nephew of the victim's wife Raksha. The flat had been ransacked and Rs.

1 lakh, US$ 1000 and 500 pounds had been stolen. Raskha had gone to a nearby temple where her husband had dropped her in the morning.

When she found her husband murdered, the woman first called the accused, as he was quite close to the family. The accused came to the flat, offered his condolences and was even helping the police in the investigations.

Police said Bhanot, who was often under huge debts, visited the Sharmas and knew about the daily routine of the victim. The Sharmas were planning to visit their sons in the US and had withdrawn Rs 1 lakh from the bank, and Bhanot was also aware of it.

On the day of the murder, the accused drove down to his aunt's flat with another relative. They entered the house and within moments, they throttled the victim and later stabbed him to death.

"They then took out cash, foreign currency, gold ornaments and other valuable articles from the almirah, stuffed them in a polythene bag and fled from the spot, The duo distributed the booty on their way and Bikal's relative fled to Punjab," said Sharad Agarwal, DCP (west). Police zeroed in on the accused as he was giving contradictory statements.

After sustained interrogations he confessed to the crime. Police have recovered the cash from his possession.
