Minor raped by policemen

IN A shocking incident, a 17-year-old girl was kidnapped in an official vehicle and raped by two government officers posted at Bijaipur block in Gopalganj district on Friday night. Agitated over the incident, an irate mob ransacked the Bijaipur block office and official residences of the accused, Tarkeshwar Sah, circle officer and Uday Shankar Jha, circle inspector.

According to eyewitnesses, the girl, a resident of Madarpur village, was lifted by the two officers in their official vehicle and taken to Deoria district of neighbouring Uttar Pradesh. The officers later outraged the girl's modesty, they alleged.

When the girl did not return home till late in the evening, her parents tried to find her but failed to do so. On Saturday morning, they came to know that their daughter was carried to an unknown destination by the officials.

The girl later returned to her village and narrated what she went through to the villagers, who attacked the block office and ransacked the quarters of the two officers. The police said the circle officer was overpowered by the mob and thrashed in full public view.

Later, the police rescued the officers from the mob. The police also used force to disperse the agitators.

Additional Director-General (law and order) Anil Sinha said an FIR had been lodged against the two accused.
