Thanda matlab SRCC

News has it that Shri Ram College of Commerce is making the pioneer move of installing air conditioners in their classrooms. Conversations that end with "lets bunk, it's too hot for class" may soon be a thing of the past if SRCC sets the ball rolling with one of the "coolest" things colleges can do to make life easier.

With the summer temperatures soaring higher than ever, this might just be the breath of fresh air students were waiting for. Neha, a 2nd year student of the college, says, "Most of us avoid going to classes because of the heat.

But this move might change that. It's a lot easier to concentrate when you don't keep feeling sweaty.

" Others can only hope their colleges follow suit. Raj, a Hansraj student, says, "Since we are doomed to attend classes, might as well have some incentive for doing so.

" But others aren't so keen on the idea. Dheeraj, a B.Com student.

says, "If the plan gets implemented, it's only going to spoil the students. Students need to be in touch with reality if they plan to work after college.

" A case of sour grapes? May be. But then ACs might just take away the old-school feel from DU which is known for students who manage to chill out and roam around carelessly even in the month of June.

Dr. P.C.Jain, Principal, SRCC says, "This is a plan funded by our ex-students and being the pioneer college to take such an initiative is a matter of pride to us.

Being a funded college, many amenities are in bad shape and we hope to convert into a reasonably good college. Each classroom requires an investment of 6 lakh.

The plan should be fully implemented by 16th July." Even schools like GD Goenka brag of providing air conditioning for their students.

It's debatable whether other colleges would follow suit unless they too receive some much-needed help from their alumni who might want to dig deeper into their pockets. At least then students won't have to rush to Kamla Nagar's Barista every chance they get.

Classes may still be a drag but the new move should be of some consolation to the new generation which settles for nothing but the best.
