Nineteen-year old Anna Popplewell played Susan Pevensie in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Along with the rest of her onscreen siblings and director Andrew Adamson she's back for the second Narnia film, Prince Caspian, which is due in cinemas today.
The new film, which finds Narnia under the sway of the evil King Miraz is on an even grander scale than The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and will feature bigger battles, more effects shots, many more CGI creatures and some of the largest sets created for a movie in recent years (King Miraz's castle alone occupied 20,000 square feet at the Barrandov Studios in Prague and was six stories high). Not surprisingly then, the film took a while to shoot: production spanned seven months during 2007 and the cast and crew travelled between numerous locations in New Zealand, Poland, Slovenia and the Czech Republic.
We caught up with Anna and found out what she's been up to since completing work on Prince Caspian. Looking back on the making of the film what were the highlights of the shoot? People have been such a highlight when making these movies.
I have made so many good friends and come across some absolute treasures! You visited so many different places during the making of the film. Did you have a favourite location? There was a really remote location in New Zealand called Glasswater Creek which we had to helicopter in to.
I think that was my favourite. Did Prince Caspian present more of an acting challenge than The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe? Susan is more mature, so there are different things going on.
It's certainly interesting to play. In the book girls don't fight in the battles and that's been changed in this movie, which is brilliant.
The shooting of the Narnia films lasts a long time. What do you miss while you're away from home? I miss people of course: my friends and my family.
I miss little things like English newspapers and the local cafes. Have you seen the finished film yet and, if so, what did you think of it? I've seen very little of the film actually.
I've seen the trailer and a couple of clips which I caught whilst I was in post production. I'm really excited and a bit nervous to see the finished product Do you have plans to make more films? I'd love to make more films and I'm reading various scripts at the moment, but I also have a degree to keep me busy.
I am just going to wait and see what happens.
