Getting the lead role in Jannat was no less than the story of a film for Delhi girl Sonal Chauhan. The model-turned actor got noticed at a restaurant where she had accompanied her friend, who was auditioning for a role in Bhatt's film.
Her friend lost the film, she made it. "I was not auditioned at all, since the production house found me perfect for the role.
However, my friend had stopped talking to me ever since," she laughs. Student of Philosophy at Gargi College, Sonal says that she could relate to her character from the day she was given the narration.
Her charcater is called Zoya, and she is a bold and forthright girl, who has her values in place. "When I tell people that I am playing a bold girl, they invariablely mistake it as me shedding clothes in the film.
So you have stories about hypothetical love scenes between Emraan and me in the film. I have just entered the industry and I am a victim already," she says.
She adds that she was prepared for these rumours because she has been cast opposite Emraan Hashsmi who has been typecast. "There is much more to him and to our film than the kiss.
It's already been hyped a little too much. Just because he carries the tag of a serial kisser with him, people are publicising the film only by talking about the kiss," she says.
However, the winner of the Miss World Tourism 2005 title is happy at having bagged a three-film deal with Vishesh films. She says that having walked the ramp for various fashion shows and appearing in many print campaigns gave her good exposure and thus she didn't have a tough time in front of the camera.
"I must give credit to Emraan for starring opposite so many new comers. He is so patient and makes one feel very comfortable.
I hope my career takes off as well as that of other actresses who have debuted with him," she sums up.
