Anup Sridhar qualified for the Beijing Olympics despite missing out on crucial ranking points in the last few months due to a heel injury. But the country's top ranked shuttler is aware that making a mark in the Chinese capital would be an uphill task.
As part of the his preparations for the quadrennial Games the 24-year old is planning to train in Kuala Lumpur with the Malaysian national team from first week of July till the Olympics. "I have an offer from the Malaysian national team to train with them.
They want me to come there by the end of this month but I don't want to rush there before recovering from the injury," Anup said. "I will most probably go there in the first week of July," said Anup, who has also hired a full-time traveling coach, Tom John, till the Olympics.
The two-time national champion injured his heel while playing Indonesian Taufiq Hidayat in the Swiss Super Series in March and was out of action for over a month before making a comeback in the Badminton Asia Championship in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Sridhar had trained in a club in Kuala Lumpur before the World championship last year and the stint helped him immensely.
Apart from the Bangalorean only women's national champion Saina Nehwal has qualified for the Games while the top women's doubles pair of Shruti Kurien and Jwala Gutta are in the reserves.
