A B.Ed student on Tuesday stabbed a classmate several times midway through a class even as others watched in horror, for spurning his proposal. He then climbed up to the roof of the college, with the college management and police anxiously watching his every move for over three hours.
In the end, the SP persuaded him to come down with the assurance that they would take no action against him. The incident took place at S.M.D.R.S.D. College.
Students say Jasvir Singh, who hails from Zazheli village, got up midway through a class, took out a knife and started stabbing Monica Manhas. The students did not intervene fearing Jasvir would turn on them.
Jasvir stabbed the girl at least five times and then ran towards the stairway. The girl was rushed to the civil hospital where she died.
Monica's distraught parents said the boy had been chasing her around and threatened her with dire consequences if she turned down his proposal. They had even tried to resolve the issue by talking to him.
