ARMED ROBBERS looted a house after they held two women and their domestic help captive at gunpoint in Dabri area of southwest Delhi on Monday morning. The family told the police that the robbers decamped with cash and jewelry worth Rs 80 lakh from the house.

The robbers had entered the house posing as journalists, police said. The incident occurred around 11 a.

m. at Raghu Nagar residence of a furniture trader.

The three-storied house belongs to three brothers - Shambu Dayal, Prabhu Dayal and Raju Dayal. They own the furniture showroom in Kirti Nagar and were not home when the incident took place.

Police said their domestic help Noor Alam opened the door this morning. One robber, who was at the door initially, told her that one of the Dayal brothers had been kidnapped.

"Soon the other three men, who were waiting outside, entered the house and held Shambu's wife Seema and Prabhu's wife Rishibala and the maid hostage at gunpoint," a senior police officer said. The robbers asked the women to get the keys of the cupboards and ransacked the entire house.

Police said they decamped with Rs 25 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs 55 lakh from the house. The robbers were armed with country made revolvers and knives.

The robbery continued for about an hour. The women informed their husbands and the police after the robbers left the house around 12 noon.

"There is a workshop at the ground floor and five workers were present there when the robbers reportedly barged in. They denied seeing anyone entering the house.

It seems that the robbers were aware with the movement of the family," said Shalini Singh, DCP (southwest). A case of robbery has been registered at the Dabri police station.
