Five held for cable operator's murder

POLICE HAVE arrested five men, including two contract killers, for the murder of a cable operator in Ambedkar Nagar area of south Delhi last week. Police said the victim was killed at the behest of his rivals over rights of cable viewership in Ambedkar Nagar area.

The hired killers were paid Rs 1 lakh for the murder. On May 7, the victim Ved Prakash (32) was shot dead by the accused near his house when he got down from his Santro car.

The accused had been trailing the victim and pumped seven bullets into him from a close range. The accused have been identified as Ashraf (25), Mohammad Qamar (25), Manish Kumar (36), Raju (30) and Parkash (29).

The two contract killers- Ashraf and Mohammad Qamar - had been paid by the three estranged business partners of the victim to do the job. The victim was earlier working in partnership with them.

The trio even provided the killers with the weapons.A team led by Inspectors Subhash Tandon and Vijay Singh arrested the hired killers near Mehrauli Badarpur road on Sunday.

Police said the accused were traced with the help of the mobile phone details of his business rivals. "The accused had last year in August also hatched a conspiracy to kill the victim but changed their plan as he was accompanied by his wife and children," said HGS Dhaliwal, DCP (south).
