THE POLICE have identified the main accused in the murder of a teenager in Lodhi Colony. Police said that the victim knew the accused and he had entered the house with an "intention of robbery".
"We have identified the killer and will arrest him soon. The most likely motive seems to be robbery, as per the investigations.
The teenager apparently died while trying to foil the robbery bid at his house," said a senior police officer. Several teams are raiding parts of the city and neighbouring states to nab the accused.
Police said the accused first attacked Sanchit Sachdeva with a kitchen knife and then smashed his head against the corner of a wall. He is absconding and was known to Sanchit's family.
The victim's mother, Preeti, told the police that Rs 15,000 and some jewellery worth Rs 1 lakh was missing from the house. The Sachdevas never locked their almirahs, a fact known by the accused.
Police said the most likely motive behind the murder seemed to be "robbery" as police have not found any substantial ground to prove that he was killed by any of his friends. Sanchit was found in a pool of blood by his mother when she returned from office on Friday evening.
The main door had been left open and the house was ransacked. Sanchit took his Class XII exams at the Delhi Police Public School recently and was studying at Bansals Coaching Classes for his engineering exams.
He took the IIT entrance test recently. Police said the attackers ransacked the entire house and took away valuables and Sanchit's mobile phone.
They also picked up the key of the family's Zen Estillo and drove away in it. A case of murder and robbery has been registered at the Lodhi Colony Police Station.
