TWO WOMEN caught for overspeeding got into an argument with the traffic police in Vivek Vihar area of East Delhi on Saturday evening. The car driver has alleged that she was assaulted by one of the traffic policemen for getting into an argument with him, while the police maintain that the woman had slapped and bit two traffic policemen.

The traffic police were doing routine check for overspeeding. When the traffic interceptor device indicated that the car was overspeeding at 65 kms/hr, traffic cops stopped the car near a petrol pump on road number 56.

The occupants of the car, two women and a man, got down. When asked to pay fine, they refused, police said.

"A heated argument followed and one woman slapped one of our traffic officers. He tried to stop her by holding her hand on which she raised a hue and cry.

In the ensuing melee, she also bit a hand of one of the constables," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S.N.

Shrivastava. "Apart from the traffic violations, we have also issued instructions to register a criminal case against the woman," Shrivastava added.

However, the woman caught for violating speed limits has made contrary claims. She said that it was the traffic cop who misbehaved with her and assaulted her.

The woman (name withheld) has lodged a complaint against the traffic cop. The police were ascertaining the facts and circumstances before proceeding with registration of a case against her.
