Property dealers and house hunters in the city are in a fix as uncles and aunties sometimes rent out their spare rooms to youngsters hoping for extra marital flings. Of course, house hunting has never been easy for young people in Delhi.
They just now have this added problem to wade through. Property agents say that wives (discreetly) ask them to get a handsome male tenant while the husband wants a glam doll to live in the house.
In other words, the wives want to have 'fun' while the husbands are at work and the husbands, in turn, hunt for their own 'prey'. A property dealer in South Delhi says that women tell him that they have insecurities with a girl living in the house and thus want a guy.
"These women are in their mid 30s and live in government flats allotted to their husbands. They want to rent out the house for additional income and tell us to bring boys," he says.
"On the other hand, their husbands tell us to get a nice looking girl. We get stuck in between," he adds.
Shara Ashraf, a media professional, says that when she went house hunting in Satya Niketan, the property agent asked her to dress "hot" because the husband was at home at that time. Apparently, that would have increased her chances of getting an accomadation.
Needless to say, Shara was disgusted. "I was taken aback.
I told him to show me some other house, " she says. Vedant, a college student, taggled along with one such dealer in Amar Colony, and ended up charming a housewife.
But he refused to move in. "Pata nahi auntie ke dimaag mein kya chal raha tha," he says.
However, there are also landlords who, as a rule, never take in youngsters. They might end up having affairs with someone in the family!.
