Sat, May 10 12:50 AM

Nepal's ruling Seven Party Alliance (SPA) on Friday decided to convene the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly before May 28. In a meeting held at Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala's official residence at Baluwatar, leaders of the SPA resolved to convene the first meeting soon.

The meeting also decided to set up a task force comprising the leaders of the coalition partners to work out a procedure and working list for the first CA meeting, said senior Nepali Congress leader Gopal Man Singh Shrestha. The 10-member task force would also shoulder the responsibility of recommending the names of 26 distinguished persons, likely to be apolitical, who would be nominated to the CA.

After the task force submits the report, the leaders of SPA would meet again and endorse the proposals. The SPA appealed to all the friendly nations and governments to extend active support in the construction of Nepal.
