SENIOR BJP leader, MP and former Union Minister Sumitra Mahajan has said that the party will concentrate on those 150 lost Parliament seats in the country that it missed by a thin margin in the last Lok Sabha elections. Mahajan met BJP leaders here to assess poll prospects of the party, particularly in Bareilly, Unnao, Mohanlalganj and Barabanki, in the coming Lok Sabha elections.
Talking to reporters here on Thursday, Sumitra Mahanjan said her visit was part of the BJP's ongoing poll preparations and a preliminary list of winnable candidates would soon be prepared for every constituency. Mahajan, who has been sent to study some of the Lok Sabha constituencies in the state after the delimitation and to gather information about the prospective candidates queuing up for the ticket, expressed confidence that the saffron brigade would adequate number of seats to form Government at the Centre.
She expressed concern over tardy growth and development in the state and accused the Mayawati Government of the same. She alleged that the state government was following only its own agenda of installing statutes and constructing monuments while doing nothing concrete for the people's welfare despite having a majority Government.
She advised the State Government to pay attention towards people's problems and concentrate on development projects. In Rae Bareli, Mahajan expressed hope that the NDA will form the next government at the Centre under the leadership of party's prime ministerial candidate L.
K. Advani.
Mahajan said this while addressing a press conference at the BJP office here on Thursday after the meeting of district unit of the party. She was here on a daylong visit as the emissary of her party's high command to explore the BJP nominee for the high-profile Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency.
The senior BJP leader accused Sonia Gandhi (who is MP from Rae Bareli) of not fulfilling her promise she made to her voters. The work of laying down railway line to Fatehpur, setting of Railway coach factory at Lalganj and land compensation to the farmers by the NTPC at Unchahar still remain unfulfilled, she said.
Saffron party candidates won the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat in 1998 and 1999 elections.
