Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit called on Lt.-Governor Tejendra Khanna on Friday to express her "grave" concern on the ongoing sealing drive being carried out by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in a discriminatory manner.
"MCD officials have been entering the premises of professionals who have been exempted under the Delhi Master Plan 2021 and other small shopkeepers. This is causing extreme harassment to professionals and shopkeepers," she told the Lt.
-Governor, asking for his intervention. Dikshit further said the most irrelevant questions are asked that cause unpleasant situations in most of the cases.
She described it as victimisation and an onslaught on the privacy of the citizens. Sources said the Lt.
-Governor listened patiently and agreed that the right to encroach upon privacy was unacceptable. He immediately passed orders that any officer found to be violating established procedures for sealing and entering into the houses/premises of professionals/small shopkeepers will attract the severest action.
The meeting with Lt.-Governor this morning was a follow up of a letter addressed to the Union Home Minister and Urban Development Minister with a copy endorsed to the Lt.
-Governor in which the Chief Minister had stated that the manner in which sealing was being carried out by the MCD was "a permissive implementation of the sealing requirements amounting to pick and choose".
