A MYSTERIOUS explosive blew up in south Delhi late Wednesday, injuring a man and damaging cars, police said. The low-intensity blast follows a string of similar explosions in the area that continue to baffle the cops.
Packs of tiny nails wrapped with the 'crude' explosive darted in the air and got wedged into cars parked at a traffic signal in Lado Sarai, police said, while the bonnet of a Mercedes was blown off by the impact. The windowpane of a Santro and the right side of a Versa car were badly damaged.
The blast created a crater on the road similar to the blast near the IIT flyover on January 16. "A case under the Explosives Act has been registered and we are trying to find out the nature of the explosive and who planted it," said H.
G.S.
Dhaliwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South). Eight such blasts have taken place in south Delhi in the last few years.
In two separate cases, three live bombs were recovered and diffused in time. Not even a single case has been solved, though.
A chunk of these blasts have been reported in Lado Sarai and adjoining areas, suggesting the same person or a group based here is behind the incessant explosions, said a police officer who did not want to be named. The latest explosion has sent the police in a tizzy and forced some urgent measures.
"We have called all firecracker manufacturers in the area to probe the case. It doesn't look like the work of any terrorists," said an officer.
Police suspect someone who has working knowledge of explosives is behind the blasts, while maintaining that only makeshift explosives are being used.
