She predicts Bollywood's reigning superstar Shah Rukh Khan to make a shift to politics soon. The Indian Premier League is "cricket on cocaine", she thinks.
As for the controversy surrounding cheerleaders, her answer is short and simple - "Fans are not complaining, only the politicians." HT City talks to Shobhaa D and #233; about cricket, today's youth, and her latest book - Superstar India- from Incredible to Unstoppable.
She calls the book a chronicle of two lives, hers and independent India's. "I've grown with the country," says D and #233;, the latter's diamond jubilee coinciding with her 60th birth year.
Why 'Superstar' India; is the time ripe to be self-congratulatory as a nation? "The book doesn't go ga-ga over the country," says De. "There are still problems and there always will be.
You have to see it in the right perspective." For her, the most remarkable thing is that sixty years on, India remains a thriving democracy on its way to becoming an global economic powerhouse.
"That, despite the world having written us off," she points out. "Today's India is much more dynamic," she says, "and youngsters are so aware and confident.
" Her own generation, she says, was disillusioned. D and #233; ends on a note of encouragement.
"Each young Indian today has the capacity to be a super-Indian," she says, "and they should go for it.".
