IF THINGS work according to plan, Noida and Ghaziabad residents could soon get packaged Gangajal (Ganga water) bottles through their local postman. Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam, a Government of Uttarakhand enterprise, has tied up with the postal department to supply Gangajal to the devotees.
Director of Postal Services (Noida Circle) Rajesh Singh told Hindustan Times, "The distribution company at Uttrakhand through the Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam has been exploring possibility of marketing Gangajal bottles utilising the network of the postal department." "The retail rates for 500 ml bottle would be Rs 30 and Rs 11 for 100 ml bottle.
We are working out the rate of commission with the agency," said Singh. Hindus consider Gangajal as the purest form of water and is used during many religious ceremonies.
"Initially, the project would be launched in Noida and Ghaziabad cities. On getting good response, it could be extended to other districts," he added.
Officials are now considering various options of ordering the bottle. "One option is through VPP. Another option is making a booking at the post office counter.
" "We are also considering the option of placing order through the phone. The company has been planning to set up a centralised phone call receiving centre through which they would inform the postal department concerned and the bottle would be delivered," the Director of Postal Services (Noida Circle) said.
