With antiquity being the rage of the day, one often wonders what qualifies as 'antique'. Our search for an answer led us to a website called Antiquesindian.
com . Though primarily an antique-reproduction warehouse, they have a section called accessories that features products still used in homes and villages -earthern pots, steel buckets, glass lamps, and chakkis (wheat grinders).
Irons, the kind the local dhobi uses, are also being touted as "antique" and sold for Rs 450. Chakkis that are a common sight in Gujarati household even today, used mostly as sofas or decorative pieces, are up for Rs 900 to Rs 1,200.
"There is a big market for such products in South India and in Gujarat," said DS Rathore, the owner of the website. "Our primary clientele is foreign and from all over the world," he said.
At this rate, you could earn a killing from your grandmother's ladle and bronze bowl. So hang on to the junk in your house as future antiques.
