Time to hear

This week, I'm listening. No, I'm not being lazy, taking a short cut.

In the last fortnight, readers have send in thoughts about changing our ecological footprint. Most of these are thought-provoking, worth sharing.

There are those who hope to get government to become more effective. Tribhuvan Kitchlu believes education would have revolutionised India, but government failed.

Now that this has not happened, he says: "The common man like us must take measures to save our people and the environment." How? By using our voices as tools for pressure building.

Direct Action Most other responses are about direct action. A.K. Jain, a BHEL employee from Haridwar, thinks energy when he re-considers architecture.

He recalls that earlier, construction optimised sunlight. Curtains were hardly used.

He says: "If we start following old patterns we can save lot of electricity." That is something we can act on right away.

Anuj Sharma speaks about a column on lead in paints. "Should we use chuna"? he asks.

"Why not?" I ask back. Many of you live in homes that were painted with chuna.

As long as it is bonded with some glue to prevent it from creating particulate matter inside, why not? Till paint manufacturers show us they are toxic free, we can at least take responsibility for avoiding poison into our homes.
