THE INDIAN Institute of Management-Lucknow (IIM-L) was awaiting clearance from Union HRD ministry for inducting OBC quota candidates. Prof Saji Nair, chairman admissions at IIM-L told HT, "On our part, we are ready to induct the OBC category candidates.
We have already interviewed OBC candidates as part of our normal pre-admission procedure. So, we will be in a position to accommodate the additional numbers even at a short notice.
" He said even if the admissions are to be made from this session, IIM-L was prepared to accommodate the increased number of students on the campus. The apex court, however, has left it to IIMs to decide whether they were in a position to implement the quota order from the present session or whether they wanted to carry out the exercise from the next session.
With IIM-L having decided to increase the seats from 270 to 330 from this session onwards (prior to the SC decision), the three-phased introduction of OBC quota order would see the Lucknow institute admitting around 8 per cent students in the first year, 10 per cent in the second year and 9 in the third to comply with the 27 per cent OBC reservation order. Prof Nair said, "For the time being the admission process is on hold.
I think in about a week's time all IIMs would jointly take a decision on when to come out with the final admission list.".
