WITH A view to intensify their agitation against the Ram Setu project, activists of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal have started recruiting "religious warriors" from this week. On the first day, 500 persons were recruited at Golghar near the Kali temple by Bajrang Dal and VHP office holders.

Bajrang Dal divisional coordinator Brijesh Tripathi told HT the recruitment drive would continue till November 20 and that in Gorakhpur district alone, 55,000 warriors would be hired to be at the beck and call of VHP leaders. From November 20 till December 10, the VHP and Bajrang Dal activists will take out "shila yatra" in each district, Tripathi added.

Around 40 colleges have been identified besides coaching centres where VHP and Dal activists will launch a mass contact programme to mobilise the youth to join the movement.
