VHP activists ransack stall at book fair

ACTIVISTS OF the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Ram Setu Raksha Manch ransacked a bookstall at the ongoing national book fair in Beniabagh on Saturday evening. The activists alleged the bookstall owner was selling controversial books.

The police also arrested five activists in this connection. According to reports, activists of VHP and Ram Setu Raksha Manch, accompanied by some students of Dharamsangh, reached the fair.

After reaching the stall, they searched for the controversial books. Later, they ransacked the stall.

The activists also beat up the owner of another stall. The police reached there after being informed and arrested five activists.

Reports also said the district administration officials had raided the bookstall and seized over a dozen controversial books from two bookstalls on Saturday evening. City Magistrate KN Rai confirmed the raid and added the raid had been conducted on a complaint made by the Shiv Sena that some controversial books hurting the religious sentiments of the people were on sale at fair.

He said 11 books were seized and the publisher and owner directed not to sell such books.
