High- flying Kanda sleeps on mat in the lock - up

Former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda might have led a luxurious and high- profile life, but he is not getting any VIP treatment inside the lock- up.

Kanda, who had been on the run for over 10 days after being accused in the Geetika Sharma suicide case, is being treated like an ordinary criminal inside the lock- up in the Capital's Ashok Vihar police station, police sources said. "He sleeps on a mat inside the lock- up, and is given simple food to eat," a source said.

Police officials said Kanda was not cooperating in the investigations and they were considering all possible methods to get the truth out of him.

Mapping test done on Kanda. When asked whether the police will subject him to brain mapping, deputy commissioner of police (North- West) P. Karunakaran said, "If required, we will do that. We will take him to all places where we feel probe is required."

Meanwhile, a local court on Monday rejected the Delhi Police's appeal to get the production warrant of Aruna Chaddha, human resource manager of Kanda's defunct airline MDLR. The police may appeal again for the same on Tuesday.

Kanda with Chaddha, who is currently in judicial custody, on several issues. "It is important to confront Aruna Chaddha with Gopal Kanda from the view point of investigation. There are many things that Chaddha said during her interrogation, need to be confirmed from Kanda," said a senior police officer.

On Monday, the police searched Kanda's Gurgaon- based farmhouse and his defunct MDLR office. Kanda accompanied the officials during the raids.

Geetika's family is worried that Kanda is not cooperating in the probe. Her brother Ankit told MAIL TODAY, "Kanda is not answering police questions properly. He is giving answers that are prepared by his lawyer."
