It's nail-biting action live from the gaming arena, and no, it is not the climax of Ra.One.
Etrix-11, the 11th edition of the inter-school computer festival with 150 students from 20 elite participating cradles, logged off on a high note on Friday at Jamshedpur's Tata Auditorium.
While Loyola School were the overall winners, Rajendra Vidyalaya were the first runners-up. But the real champions were the gaming contests and quiz at the two-day fest, showcasing the high level of IT know-how expected from the cub geeks.
Events comprised FIFA live football gaming as well as one titled Counter Strike, a web designing contest titled Weave in the Web, programming contest Algorithm and the famed IT quiz Abacus.
Students from Classes VII to XII took part in the exciting event that tested both insight and imagination.
"This is a one-of-a-kind IT festival at the school level in Jamshedpur, with rounds related to computers, gaming and information technology," said Neel Sarkar, computer lab moderator of Loyola School.
On Friday, the big bang was Abacus, the IT quiz, where six two-member teams comprising Loyola School, Rajendra Vidyalaya, Carmel Junior College, JH Tarapore School, DAV Public School, Bistupur, and Kerala Samajam Model School, showed off hardcore technical knowledge. After five rounds, including visual and buzzer, Loyola School geeks logged in a well-deserved win in the quiz conducted by Raj Dam of Quizworks, Bangalore.
"We're glad the quiz was based on practical know-how. Mugged up answers didn't help. I think we enjoyed it better because Raj, the quiz master, made it thrilling," said participant Anirban Kundu from Class X, Loyola School.
Anirban and teammate Shubham Agarwal went home with high-end digicams, while the Rajendra Vidyalaya team got a cash prize of Rs 10,000.
Initially christened Abacus, Etrix started in 2000. Over the years, the event has become bigger, and the hosts are planning to rope in participants from across India in 2012.
