Five shot dead by police in Chennai gunbattle

Chennai, Feb 23 (IANS) In a midnight gunbattle at a residential locality here Thursday, Tamil Nadu police shot dead five people suspected to be involved in two suburban bank branch robberies.

"Five people are dead and two policemen were injured," Chennai Police Commissioner J.K. Tripathy told reporters here.

The dead have been identified as Vinodkumar, Vinaykumar, Harishkumar, Abheykumar and Chandrikhare. While Chandrikhare was from Bihar, the others were from West Bengal. They were in the age group of 30-35.

Police said they got a call in the midnight that warned them of some suspicious characters in an apartment in Velachery locality.

A police team immediately went to the spot and asked the residents of that apartment -- located on the ground floor -- to come out.

However, the residents instead of coming out opened one of the windows and started shooting and injured two policemen.

Police then surrounded the building and started shooting in self defence. The exchange of fire continued for an hour.

Later, when police entered the apartment they found five people in a pool of blood.

Police also recovered around Rs.10 lakh from the apartment.

The five people had been staying in a rented apartment, saying they were students in the city.

After two shocking bank robberies at gun-point here, police had formed 45 teams and started investigating the case.

They zeroed-in on one person who was caught in the closed circuit television (CCTV) at a bank branch and released his portrait.

Residents of the locality said they were shocked when they came to know about the gun-battle in the morning.

"It is very shocking to know that five bank robbers were staying in our locality," said a resident.

The two injured policemen have been admitted to Royapettah Hospital.

The police statement is not convincing. How can five professional robbers, all staying in a house, be killed through window firing ?How has the police concluded that they are robbers? How strange that the residents came to know about the gunfire only in the morning only ?Something fishy about the encounter.

Most here appreciates Chennai Police for their bravery.. I dont understand, Y?
Ok good job on behalf of safety of public because my mother itself is working in bank and she felt insecure when the robbers robbed a bank. (i am from Keelkattalai, The place wer the IOB bank was robbed, walkable distance from my house) But now she feels secured after knowing that those robbers are killed by Police, the CCPD..! That means, this would be a lesson to culprits that they will be brought to justice..

(Please read below fully. This is not a joke)

But, Y most people dont understand or think, Who r these robbers? Are these are robbers from their childhood or is this their profession?? NO....
Did u notice wat police said a month ago when they robbed their first bank target (Perungudi, a place very close to me, just around 5 kms form my home), "This is not a job of professional robbers, this robbery is something similar to Hollywood". That means the robbery had been taken place in style.. Who does in style? Only Educated could....
If u get details about these robbers, u will know that they are Ex-students who r graduates but are unemployed after their study.. Y unemployed? becoz of the crude HR in every organization..
For instance, my mother's Bank works with at least 15 staff.. This itself is actually low (infact my mother's bank should have atleast 20 and more staff for smooth run of bank operation). But when an another bank near by needs some staff due to some heavy load, deputation of 2 staffs are been transfered from my mother's bank to that another bank. That reduces to 13 staff here. So instead of 20 staff, only 13 staff work here (that too virtually only 11 staff works because almost daily average of 2 people take leave here, CL or EL). Half of the Staffs at such offices/banks are aged above 50. And with this hectic work, my mom feels so hard on her daily work.. That means, a staff who is aged above 50 does the same work of 2 staffs..
But HR people, produce a vacancy of 600 every 6 months, conduct toughest exams and recruit only 50% of them.
Y not they can easy the recruitment process and produce more jobs and fill most vacancies??
This problem is not only with Govt orgs but also with almost every organizations run in this damn country...
If most get jobs, Most Graduates wont get time to do these kind of anti social activities. Or atleast, the educated people wont involve into these practices anymore..

But i am sure, This is not gonna happen and UNEMPLOYABILITY rate is gonna increase more... And i am also very sure that instead of increase in Graduate Office executives, more Educated Graduate Robbers are gonna come out. And Police is gonna do this job again and kill them to get medals...

Also remember, with the increase is Engineering and Management colleges is the country, If 1 lakh student get passed out every year becoming BEs and MBAs, only less that Half of them get job. Wat about others? How many can start business? How many can commit Suicides? and how many can become politicians?

Please people, think.. Infact this is one way or other a good job done by police in name of their duty. That means, "police did their duty"... But this is not a Brave job...

If police is taking action then people are calling foul.If they don't police is ineffective. This indian style

Taking action does not mean killing innocent people. If the five persons were robbers, the police must be congratulated for the successful operation.
