Chennai, Aug.10 (ANI): Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader M K Azhagiri visited ailing Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh at a private hospital here on Friday. Deshmukh, who is currently on life support system, was admitted to the hospital with a liver-related ailment and possible multiple organ failure.
"There seems to be a good improvement. I met his doctors. I couldn't meet him in person," Azhagiri told media here.
Kerala Congress Chief Ramesh Chennithala, who also visited hospital, said Deshmukh is improving.
"He (Deshmukh) is stable. We talked to the doctors and other family members. I feel that now he has improved a lot. We are praying for his good health and early recovery," he added.
Meanwhile, doctors have said Deshmukh's condition is stable and added that a liver transplant option will we considered after his condition improves.
"Deshmukh continues to be on life support and is under observation since Tuesday," hospital authorities said.
Rashtriya Lokmanch party Amar Singh, who earlier visited hospital, said: "I am here as a friend to pray for his good health, and I have got hope, because he is a good man, he has done good to everyone."
"Hopefully, he will be alright and the prayers of millions of his followers, supporters and friends and sympathisers are with him," he added.
Earlier in Mumbai, state Congress leaders organised a prayer meeting for the speedy recovery of Deshmukh.
"We have prayed for the speedy recovery and long life of Vilasrao Deshmukh. His contributions at the social, regional and national levels are immense and hence we need his presence and guidance. That is why we have prayed for him," said state Congress leader Harshvardhan Patil.
Renowned liver transplant surgeon Dr Mohamed Rela is leading the medical team that is monitoring 67-year-old Deshmukh's health.
According to hospital authorities, Deshmukh's family is not comfortable sharing details of his illness with the media, and hence, the hospital has not been issuing any medical bulletin. Deshmukh's son and daughter-in-law, actors Riteish and Genelia, are at the hospital along with other family members. (ANI)
