Dismissed IAF officer Anjali Gupta hangs herself

More than six years after former Indian Air Force (IAF) officer Anjali Gupta became the first woman to be court-martialled, she committed suicide at a family friend's residence in Bhopal. She was found hanging on Sunday, India Today reported

According to police, Anjali was alone in the house of IAF Group Captain Amit Gupta when she allegedly took the extreme step. She had been working with a private company since her dismissal from the IAF.

The police said Anjali had arrived in Bhopal on September 7 from Bangalore, where she was employed. Group Captain Amit told the police that he had gone to Delhi for the engagement of his son on September 8. Though he asked Anjali to come along, the latter insisted on staying at his house.

In 2008, Anjali had claimed that her Commanding Officer, the Second-in-Command and the adjutant, had been sexually harassing her. When protested, she was threatened to be sent away on temporary duty and later was put under house arrest. Her mother and brother were allegedly thrown out of the Kalka military station.

Acting on a complaint by Anjali, the General Court Martial (GCM) assembled at Udhampur (J&K) in August 2010, directed to forfeit six-year service of the accused Colonel for the purpose of promotion and also sentenced severe reprimand.

According to the complaint, Col Anurodh Mishra of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (EME) battalion allegedly called Anjali at his residence on the pretext of office-related instructions and misbehaved with her.

The police team also found a 15 litre can and two bottles filled with petrol, at the spot where Anjali was found hanging. Amit pleaded ignorance about the fuel. Police now also suspect that she might have contemplated setting herself on fire before she decided upon hanging.

The former flying officer was dismissed by the IAF in December 2005.

Not only in Military women are harrassed at each and every level. In private organisation there are white elephants are sitting on the higher cabins not knowing anything and Not doing anything. Taking huge salaries but they do not want to give opportunities to women so that they could sit on the bigger seats.

Shame on those men.. We must say that women must fight against that.

She should have killed that bastard who has misbehaved with her before taking this extreme step, her suicide proofs that her allegations were true and she was innocent, but this sexual harassment is very rampant in Army, so much corruption is in Army, look at the life styles of these army officers when they retire, big houses, lavish living, there kids mostly abroad or there girls mostly models , miss universe, miss worlds, how they spend this much money on there kids.

very unfortunate incident.looks and sounds very very suspicious. needs to be investigated further by credible agencies. but Yahoo and all news agencies seem to have completely botched up the story. they are not clear as to weather the officer was Ex airforce or army. they are saying she was an airforce officer and then quoting her dismissal from electronics and mechanical engineers of the army. i think the news agencies are mixing up to separate incidences.

A truely shamefull act by our forces!!! On one hand they are promoting a young and passionate Indians to join "the Forces"..and lead the way..If forces does not have gutts to hire, handle or report to women officer then please stop recruting "the Women" and do not play with life of each and every indivisual. To an "Indian" living in India or abroad have a great respect towards their forces do maintain that self respect and dignity. The officer who had died probably had a dream and vision to achive something in forces and do something for the Nation..had she not demanded such disgracefull death.

I would like to make an request to Madam President Of Democrat India to kindly look into the matter as a high command of forces and should punish the personal behind it and set a way that the same should not be repeated in forces atleast.

May we all pray for departed soul..

      God Bless our Nation.

Is Anjali tested at SSB (AIR FORCE) for psychological test and under go through various other mental ability test. Separate inquiry is must as she is weak from mental side and the officer who tested at SSB. It is must that person who have such poor mental fiber, question arise on her assessment. There is several thousand cases where all army officer exploited all those who went under their command. Even after retirement they like only spoonish and Butler ship. Anjali has to choose wrong way if any unjust she feels, she has to demolish the person who has reasoned behind. Really she is weak but every lady officer is not anjali and they will not repeat.

Seriously we can't really imagine about the mental torcher she is going through. Obviously I'm not supporting anybody but at least if she is not guilty she should have fought for her rights there are many other alternatives rather than suicide this is really pathetic. Now we hope if she is not guilty she should get Justice. If somewhere she is listening us I want to say "You Really Did a Crime to your parents, to your children and to your friends. Rest In Peace Anjali

Give a newsman a story and he will find a slant. The two incidents her dismissal and much, much later suicide have been so portrayed so as to make it seem like one led to the other. Is there any justification in all these assumptions or is it simply giving rein to one's own theories.
