Nagaon, Sept. 19: Dimapur United Football Club entered the semi-finals thrashing Bloodmouth Hailakandi 5-0 in the first quarter-final match of the 8th Chief Executive Member Cup football tournament at the N.L. Daulogupu sports complex in Haflong today.
The game was the first match played under floodlights in the Dima Hasao sports complex.
Dimapur United dominated the match all through and the team's left winger Devid Hmar's shot brought the first goal of the match in the 38th minute. He also scored the fourth goal for Dimapur team in the 71st minute.
Devid also turned provider as his skilful pass to midfielder C.L. Hmar helped score the second goal for the Dimapur side.
Dimapur striker and former Central Railway captain Anthony scored the third goal in the 61st minute and L. Hmar scored the last goal in the 87th minute. Bloodmouth players Biswanath Karmakar and Rwel Senapati were sent off in the 55th and 82nd minutes, leaving the team with nine men at the end.
FC Bethlehem had defeated Guidai 2-1 in the last pre-quarter-final match on Tuesday. Dima Hasao became the third district in the state to stage matches under floodlights for the tournament.
Nearly 6,000 people from different parts of the district came to see the floodlit match.
"This is a very rare experience for me. I have seen matches at night only on TV but the council has made it possible to watch such matches in our town," said 65-year-old Polen Langthasa, who had come from Basapara (30km from Haflong) with others to see the match. Next, football heavyweight Morning star will play Greenland Football Club Meghalaya.
The semi-final line-up of the 5th Airtel GTC Challenge Trophy football tournament was drawn up on Wednesday after Assam Rifles blanked out Royal Wahingdoh FC, Shillong 2-0 in the last quarter-final at Judges Field here, writes our staff reporter from Guwahati.
Assam Rifles will now play Oil India FC in the second semi-final on Friday while in the first semis, hosts Gauhati Town Club will meet Randajied United FC, Shillong the same day.
